Congressman Jesús "Chuy" García, representing Illinois’ 4th district since 2019, recently addressed significant social issues in a series of tweets. Known for his advocacy on behalf of marginalized communities, García's posts reflect ongoing concerns about wage inequality and the plight of immigrant workers.
On March 25, 2025, Congressman García highlighted the persistent wage gap affecting women, particularly Latinas and other women of color. He called attention to this issue by stating: "It's 2025, and women—especially Latinas and other women of color—are still earning less than men for the same work. This inequality is unacceptable. We must pass the Paycheck Fairness Act now! #EqualPayDay".
The following day, March 26, 2025, he paid tribute to six immigrant workers who died in a bridge collapse. In his tweet he remarked: "Today we remember the six immigrant workers who lost their lives in the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse. Their tragic deaths remind us of a painful reality: immigrant workers are too often unseen, undervalued, and unprotected." Emphasizing that such circumstances should not persist.
In a similar message on the same day but in Spanish, García reiterated: "Hoy recordamos a los seis trabajadores inmigrantes que perdieron la vida en el derrumbe del puente Francis Scott Key. Sus trágicas muertes nos recuerdan una dolorosa realidad: con demasiada frecuencia, los trabajadores inmigrantes son invisibles, no son valorados y están".
