On December 3, 2024, the Cicero Clergy Committee hosted its annual appreciation brunch for the Cicero Police Department. The event took place at noon at the police department and brought together clergy members, law enforcement officers, and town officials to honor the dedication of those who work to ensure community safety.
Chaplain Ismael Vargas, who has been serving as the police chaplain for over ten years, organized the gathering. He opened by expressing gratitude to the officers for their sacrifices during the holiday season. “Many of you miss time with your families to ensure the safety of others,” Vargas said. “Today is a moment to not only provide a warm meal but also to remind you that our community sees you, supports you, and prays for you.”
The brunch underscored a strong bond between the police department and the community. Vargas highlighted that this tradition reflects unity and mutual respect. “Behind the uniforms are fathers, mothers, sons, and daughters,” he noted. “This gathering is about recognizing the humanity and heart behind the service.”
Superintendent of Police Tom Boyle also spoke at the event, thanking clergy members for their support. “Your gratitude is incredibly meaningful to us,” he stated. “The police department is service-oriented at its core, much like your work in the community. It’s an honor to come together during this season of giving and gratitude.”
Officers had an opportunity for fellowship amid their demanding schedules while engaging in spiritual reflection led by Vargas. A moment of silence was observed for an officer who had recently passed away.
Vargas concluded with a message emphasizing hope and resilience: “Even in times of mourning or difficulty, we are reminded of strength and faith that carry us forward.”
The Cicero Clergy Committee's commitment exemplifies collaboration within Cicero's community by fostering unity among residents, faith leaders, and public servants through events like these.
