The Oak Park Fire Department will host its annual open house on October 12, coinciding with Fire Safety Month. The event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Central Fire Station located at 100 N. Euclid Ave.
Visitors will have the opportunity to explore essential equipment used by modern fire departments and participate in tours of the firehouse. Presentations about safety and fun handouts are also part of the program.
A Vitalant blood drive will take place onsite from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., aiming to support local community blood centers.
The Oak Park Fire Department operates with three shifts of 22 trained professionals, ensuring continuous protection for residents. All firefighters are also paramedics, as emergency medical services form a significant aspect of their mission. Approximately 60% of calls received by the department are related to medical emergencies.
In 2023, firefighter/paramedics in Oak Park responded to over 8,600 calls for fire and emergency medical services.
