Village of Brookfield Conservation Commission met Aug. 27

Here are the minutes provided by the commission:

I./II. Call to Order at 6:30 P.M. and Roll Call.

Conservation Commissioners Present: Bridget Jakubiak (Chair, Kevin Leodinh, Wyatt Widmer Mary

Cote, Jennifer Nelson, Megha Patel and Logan St. John

Conservation Commissioner(s) Absent: None

Conservation Trustee / Staff Liaison: Katie Kaluzny

Staff Liaison: None

Guest: Marie Duffek, Sandy Ronecker & Alan Goodcase

III. Approval of Minutes: Approved July 2024 meeting minutes

IV. Reports

1. Chair: Presented in Meet-The-Creek

2. Staff: None

3. Trustee Liaison: The Village is currently researching EV charging stations for future consideration. Bob Uphughes has become Communication Manager, Full-time as Village staff.

V. Old Business Presented during new business

VI. New Business

1. Meet the Creek Planning for 2024 (Bridget): Renting canoes and kayaks from vendor while also supplementing with gear from volunteers. Additional volunteer kayaks are still needed. No life jackets. Staff from Parks & Rec will pick up kayaks from residents and return. We will not have pencils as a giveaway; order quantity is too high. Zoo will arrive at 2:00PM on day of the event. Victor will handle tents, tables and chairs. Wyatt is handling the volunteer, Sign-up Genius for the event. Mary will coordinate volunteers during the event. Logan will be handling waiver paperwork. Event is from Noon to 4:00PM.

2. Kiwanis Signage (Megha):

The Parks and Rec Department is moving forward with OSLAD grant. NPS is also assisting BCC to find economical solutions regarding the bridge at Creekside Park. Signage is still in process. Presented plans to Village of the Whole on 08/26/2024.

3. Upcoming events:

E-Waste recycling event, 10/19/24.

Oaktober Fest at the library 10/7/24 @ 7:00 PM.

Metropolitan Mayors Caucus presentation, 10/15/24 @9:00 – 10:00AM

Chicago Wilderness to discuss sustainability plan, 11/15/2024

4. Workday Planning (Wyatt): Scheduled for Sunday, 09/08/24.

Restoration Management Plan in process

VI. Public Comment 1. Concerns for not enough funding for the controlled burns. 2. Clarity on which commission is spearheading the projects at South Kiwanis and Creekside Park. 3. Residents have concerns of new bridge will entice lude behavior in the woods. 4. Good people assisting with Adopt-Spot. 5. Kudos given to the all the signage around Ehlert Park Bio Swale
