The Cook County Department of Veterans Affairs (CCVA) is currently accepting applications for the Chicago Cook Technology Academy (Tech Academy), a free training program aimed at equipping veterans with essential career skills in the technology sector. This initiative, a collaboration between Cook County, Microsoft, and National Able Network, will commence its 11-week course on July 22, 2024.

Applications must be submitted by Sunday, July 14, 2024, at midnight.

Veterans residing in Chicago or suburban Cook County are encouraged to apply for the Tech Academy, which will host five sessions throughout 2024. The current application period pertains to the fourth training session. To date, three sessions have been completed, resulting in 32 graduates; of these graduates, 24 have secured employment post-training with an average starting wage of $30.27 per hour.

The curriculum for the Tech Academy is derived from Microsoft's Software and Systems Academy and has been adapted specifically for Cook County by Microsoft at no cost. This makes Cook County the second region in the United States to offer this programming.

While the Tech Academy is open to all qualifying veterans, it is particularly tailored for service members transitioning out of military service. Participants receive training in cloud development or cloud administration from expert instructors at National Able Network’s IT Career Lab. Graduates will have opportunities to interview for full-time entry-level IT positions within CCVA's network of IT hiring partners.

Cook County has allocated $750,000 from American Rescue Plan Act funding to support this program.
