Monday, May 27 is Memorial Day, the federal holiday honoring those who have lost their lives in service of the nation as members of the U.S. Armed Forces.
Joshua W. Harris VFW Post 2686, headquartered in Brookfield, will host a Memorial Day ceremony on May 27 at 11 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park, located at the corner of Grand Boulevard and Sunnyside Avenue.
The keynote speaker will be U.S. Congressman Jesus "Chuy" Garcia, whose district includes Brookfield.
The VFW post is named in honor of Brookfield resident Sgt. Joshua Harris, 21, who was killed in action in September 2008 while serving with the U.S. Army National Guard's 122nd Field Artillery Regiment in Afghanistan.
The public is invited to attend the ceremony.
