Jon Luers, a candidate for Illinois State Senate District 10, recently voiced his concerns about the escalating violent crime in the district. He stated, "As senseless, violent crime advances largely undeterred further into the 10th Senate district, are YOU ready to get serious and insist on better state and county policies?" Luers is set to face incumbent Democrat Robert Martwick in the general election and has urged constituents to reconsider their support for politicians who restrict police authority.
"As senseless, violent crime advances largely undeterred further into the 10th Senate district, are YOU ready to get serious and insist on better state and county policies," said Luers, according to Facebook. "Well done to the police who quickly tracked these killers down, but let's have their backs by VOTING OUT the craven politicians who tie police hands and coddle those who were never taught to distinguish right from wrong!"
Luers took to Facebook to share an update from Nadig Newspaper. The newspaper reported that "Two persons of interest have been released without charging and the investigation remains active and ongoing," according to Alderman Nick Sposato. The update also mentioned that two brothers were in custody in connection with a murder and robbery case involving a 24-year-old man. Sposato revealed that police had identified a vehicle linked to the crime registered under a relative's name. He added that another vehicle, possibly stolen, might have been involved as well.

The Nadig Newspaper's Facebook post included a link to an article detailing the incident captured in photos shared on their page. The report disclosed that a 24-year-old man had died from gunshot wounds sustained during a robbery on May 10 at 7 am. Surveillance footage showed the sound of gunfire followed by screams from the victim before a vehicle was seen driving away. Moments later, an individual believed to be the shooter was seen fleeing the scene.
According to Nadig Newspapers' report, there have been 60 robberies recorded through May 5 in Chicago's 16th Police District, marking a significant increase of 36% compared to the same period in 2023.
