Residents of Brookfield are encouraged to participate in shaping the future of Ehlert Park as the Department of Parks and Recreation moves forward with plans for a significant renovation project. Scheduled for Thursday, May 9, an Open House will provide an opportunity for community members to voice their opinions on the play elements to be included in the park's redesign.
The focus of the project is to revamp the southwest quadrant of Ehlert Park, with a primary goal of establishing a fully accessible play environment featuring a poured-in-place rubber surface for enhanced accessibility. In addition to this key feature, the renovation will encompass various other enhancements aimed at improving the overall park experience.
According to the department, the proposed upgrades include the renovation of the picnic shelter, installation of a game table area and picnic tables, refurbishment of the existing ballfield, and the introduction of a new soccer field. Furthermore, trail enhancements will be implemented to ensure accessible connections throughout the park, while the memorial garden will undergo a revitalization process. Green landscape features like a rain garden with native planting are also part of the comprehensive plan.
Residents are urged to review the two options being considered for the play elements and provide their feedback during the Open House at Brookfield Village Hall. The event, which will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., aims to gather input from individuals, be it parents, caregivers, or concerned community members, to contribute to the creation of a safe and enjoyable playing environment for children.
In a statement, the Recreation Director, Luke Gundersen, emphasized the significance of community engagement in the renovation project, stating, "Whether you are a parent, caregiver, or simply a concerned resident, your input is crucial in helping us create a fun and safe environment for our children to play and explore."
For those unable to attend the Open House, an alternative option to provide feedback is available by contacting Recreation Director Luke Gundersen via email at lgundersen@brookfieldil.gov. Residents are encouraged to seize this opportunity to actively participate in shaping the future of Ehlert Park and making a positive impact on the community.
