LTHS South Campus faced another alarming "swatting" incident on Thursday morning, leading to a soft lockdown at the facility. The malicious act of "swatting" involves making a false report to emergency services in an attempt to provoke a response from law enforcement or other first responders.
Following an investigation by the authorities, the Winston-Salem Police Department (WSPD) gave the all-clear, allowing the lockdown to be lifted. As a precautionary measure, an increased police presence will be maintained at South Campus. The incident did not impact North Campus.
In response to the incident, a school official reiterated that "swatting" is defined as the action or practice of making a prank call to dispatch emergency personnel. The official also highlighted the importance of taking such incidents seriously and cooperating with law enforcement.
The WSPD is diligently working to trace the origin of these "swatting" calls, underscoring the seriousness with which such false reports are taken. Authorities are committed to ensuring the safety and security of the school community amidst these unsettling events.
