Village of Western Springs Public Health and Safety Committee met April 10.

Chair Lewis moved to open committee meeting, seconded by Member Tyrrell. The motion passed on a roll call vote. Voting aye: Chair Lewis and Member Tyrrell. The Public Health and Safety Committee meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m.

2. Approval of Minutes
Member Tyrrell moved, seconded by Chair Lewis, to approve the minutes of the meeting of February 7, 2023, and March 3, 2023, as read. The motion passed on a roll call vote. Voting aye: Chair Lewis and Member Tyrrell. Voting nay: None.
3. Review
Deputy Manager Biernacki informed the Committee that the Hinsdale Humane Society (HHS) has historically provided over a dozen municipalities, including the Village of Western Spring, stray animal services at zero cost. These services are focused on stray animals that are discovered within the Village of Western Springs. Services include the storage and care of stray animals, veterinary services, pet rescue services, and the preparation of the animal for adoption services, if necessary.
Deputy Manager Biernacki explained that in late 2022, the HHS notified municipalities that they could no longer provide these services at no cost and provided a draft agreement for review. Deputy Manager Biernacki reviewed the fee options and contract specifications with the Committee. He added that the contract was still in review and that the Village was working with LaGrange and LaGrange Park on joint language. Deputy Manager Biernacki expected that staff would bring a final version of the document through a future meeting.

Chair Lewis made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Member Tyrrell. The motion passed on a unanimous voice vote. The meeting was adjourned at 6:50 p.m.
