Dominican Falls Short in Back-to-Back Games

The Dominican University baseball team traveled to Centre College to open up their season.

The Stars took on Centre College game one, and then faced Penn State Behrend for the finale on Saturday.

Game 1 Results:
Dominican:3
Centre:4

How it Happened:
-Dominican fell behind early with the Colonels scoring a run in the first and two in the third.
-The Stars brought it within one in the 5th inning on a groundout to the shortstop.
-Dominican continued to add to their run total in the fourth inning, taking a 3-2 lead.
-Centre would strike back in the 7th to make their lead 4-2.
-DU fell just short in the 8th scoring one but unable to score the tying run.

Shining Stars:
-Junior Grayson Downing lead the team with 2 hits and one run scored.
-Sophomore Ryan Schmidt cashed in with 2 hits and an RBI
-Fifth Year Hayden Young pitched 6 innings and 4 strikeouts.

Game 2 Results:
Penn State Behrend:6
Dominican:5

How it Happened:
-Dominican started off hot scoring the first three runs. Getting all 3 in the fourth inning.
-The Lions had a big 5th inning to take a 5-3 lead.
-Dominican did not quit and tied it up in their half of the 9th.
-Penn State Behrend ended up walking-off in the bottom of the 9th.

Shining Stars:
-Junior Matt Galdi lead the team with 3 hits.
-Junior Grayson Downing chipped in with 2 hits, 2 RBI's, a run scored, and a walk.
-Sophomore Ethan Shepherd threw four and two third innings with 5 strikeouts.
-Junior Chris Kendziora threw four innings with 5 strikeouts.
