There have been 571,620 confirmed coronavirus cases in Cook County as of April 20, with 6,960 deaths linked to the virus, according to data from the state Department of Public Health (IDPH).

Chicago (575,244 cases) and Cook County (571,620 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 7,356, while Cook County recorded 6,960 deaths, according to the IDPH.

Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 58,602,285, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was under 20, with 696,653 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.

Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 1,443,560 were male and 1,618,135 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 18,336, while female deaths stood at 15,210.

Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 21,087 whites, 6,190 African-Americans, 4,663 Hispanics, 1,032 Asians, and 574 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
