Village of Berkeley Village Board met March 15.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

1 President Lee calls the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.

2 Pledge of Allegiance

3 Roll Call

Present at Roll Call: Trustees Mohammed, Hammar, Salemi, Graf-Stone, Perez, Mathews, Village President Lee

Also present: Village Administrator Espiritu, Village Attorney Smith, Assistant to the Village Administrator Miller, Police Chief Larem, Public Works Superintendent Wagner

4 Presentations and Appointment

4.1 Swearing-in of Police Officer Sang Lee

Trustee Mathews swears in Police Officer Lee. Congratulations!

4.2 Village of Berkeley Partner Agency Annual Reports

4.2.1 Berkeley Neighborhood Watch

President Tim Carpenter introduces staff and current and future projects. They will continue to work with block captains and community events. Monthly meeting is held on Thursday once a month at the library.

4.2.2 Berkeley Garden Club

Chair Kathleen Chmura shared financial report. Advises all four lots are left this year. Tim Moore is assisting regarding donating the produce grown. Garden club is working with other organizations and has also been able to increase to three beehives.

4.2.3 Berk-Hill Baseball

Coordinator Joe Romano states getting Hillside and Berkeley together.

Participation was especially being affected by COVID, want kids back in the fields.

5 Public Hearings

5.1 Fiscal Year 2022 – 2023 Budget Hearing

Floor given to Assistant to the Administrator Justyn Miller who presents minor changes in budget. Budget will be presented for approval on April 5, 2022.

Trustee Graf-Stone advises all team continuing to work on compensation and class study. Team also is continuing to work on contract renewal for refuge. Alerts all village currently at zero COVID cases in Berkeley.

9.2 Finance and Economic Development (Chair – Trustee Mohammed; Co Chair Trustee Salemi)

Trustee Mohammed thanks everyone for their hard work on the budget.

Administrator Espiritu presents 3rd quarter financial dashboard.

Trustee Mathews turns floor to Chief Larem who give update on additional staffing.

9.4 Fire and Health (Chair – Trustee Salemi; Co-Chair Trustee Perez)

Chief Larem advises all staffing has increased and its a continued work in progress.

9.5 Public Works and Utilities (Chair – Trustee Hammar; Co-Chair Trustee Mohammed)

Trustee Hammer advises all had a productive meeting with the Park District at the ad hoc committee. Commitments have been made regarding revamping tennis courts, ball fields and fencing. Presentation was made regarding village combining with the park district at the ad-hoc meeting. Trustee Hammer states public works building ahead of schedule and steel is up.
