There have been 555,816 confirmed coronavirus cases in Cook County as of March 10, with 6,859 deaths linked to the virus, according to data from the state Department of Public Health (IDPH).

Chicago (560,537 cases) and Cook County (555,816 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 7,297, while Cook County recorded 6,859 deaths, according to the IDPH.

Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 55,602,003, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was under 20, with 682,529 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.

Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 1,415,903 were male and 1,583,672 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 18,078, while female deaths stood at 14,974.

Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 20,760 whites, 6,102 African-Americans, 4,613 Hispanics, 1,025 Asians, and 552 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
