State Sen. President Don Harmon and Gov. J.B. Pritzker both visited London to encourage investment in Illinois.
"IL is the crossroads of America's transportation network, home to world-class universities and skilled workforce," Harmon tweeted. "Industries looking to get into world's leading economy should do it here, in Illinois. That's why we're in London."
Pritzker described his visit to London as a recruiting trip to encourage new investment and jobs for Illinois, Fox 32 reported. He then went on to the U.N. Climate Change Conference in Scotland.
The governor disagrees with critics of Illinois' Climate and Equitable Jobs Act who say it will lead to power bill hikes, the story said.
"With our climate action plan in one hand and the Reimagine Electric Vehicles Act in the other, I will aggressively work to recruit and support businesses that will create thousands of good jobs in communities across our state," Pritzker said.
President Biden praised the Scotland conference for an agreement to cut emissions of methane gas by 30% by the year 2030.
"A hundred nations have signed on to reduce methane by 30% by 2030," Biden said, the station reported. "That is – methane is 25 times more toxic to the environment than CO2."
China, Russia and Saudi Arabia skipped the conference, the station reported.
Harmon has also been active in backing the governor's mask mandates.
"When we follow medical science, we make progress against this pandemic,” he said on Facebook. “I applaud the governor for continuing to follow the science to protect the people of Illinois."
