State Sen. John Curran (R-Ill.) spoke with his constituents recently to give them an overview on what is happening with the COVID-19 vaccine supply.
He said that collar counties in the state are having a hard time getting access to the vaccine and he is blaming the lack of guidance from the Illinois Department of Public Health.
He said there is too much focus on sending the vaccine to Chicago and too little effort getting the vaccine to less-populated areas. "Collar counties continue to struggle with inadequate vaccine supply," he said.
Curran said that he is scheduled to discuss the vaccine rollout with the IDPH and county health departments on Monday in a virtual meeting and he promises to grill officials about the lack of transparency in the process.
Curran said, “Legislators have been assured that vaccine distribution will increase significantly in the suburbs and downstate in the coming weeks, but our county health department officials need clarity and consistency now so they can adequately plan at the local level,”
He mentioned that Dr. Ngozi Ezike, the executive director of IDPH, will be in Monday's Zoom meeting.
