GOTTLIEB MEMORIAL HOSPITAL: Receives 7th Consecutive ‘A’ Safety Rating from Leapfrog Group

Doctorspic

Gottlieb Memorial Hospital issued the following announcement on Dec. 27.

Gottlieb Memorial Hospital received its seventh consecutive ‘A’ grade from the Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization committed to health care quality and safety.

In addition to receiving the highest possible rating in the fall 2020 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, Gottlieb Memorial Hospital in Melrose Park, Illinois, part of Loyola Medicine, also received an ‘A’ for the previous six rating periods. Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades are assigned biannually in the fall and spring.

“We are extremely proud of Gottlieb’s successive ‘A’ safety ratings,” said Loyola Medicine President and CEO Shawn P. Vincent. “Gottlieb’s health care team is a model for prioritizing safety as part of overall sterling patient-centered care.”

“There is no greater priority at Gottlieb Memorial Hospital than the safety of our patients,” said Elizabeth E. Early, Loyola Medicine regional vice president of professional and support services, and interim president of Gottlieb Memorial Hospital. “This seventh consecutive ‘A’ rating is a reflection of our dedicated physicians and colleagues and their commitment to outstanding patient care.”

Earlier this year, Gottlieb was ranked “high performing” in heart failure in U.S. News & World Report’s 2020-2021 Best Hospital’s rankings. To achieve a high performing specialty ranking, a hospital must be among the top 10% in the nation. In 2020, Gottlieb also received a three-year, silver-level Beacon Award for Excellence from the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) “for providing safe, patient-centered and evidence-based care to patients.” Gottlieb is one of only 21 patient care units in Illinois, and just 580 in the U.S., that have received a Beacon Award for Excellence.

The Safety Grade, considered the “gold measure” of patient safety, is a letter grade assigned to 2,600 general, acute-care hospitals across the country based on how well the hospital protects its patients from errors, injuries, accidents and infections.

Developed under the guidance of a national expert panel, comprised of some of the nation’s leading quality and patient safety experts, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades. The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.

Gottlieb Memorial Hospital is located at 701 W. North Ave. in Melrose Park, Illinois.
