Westchester FD responds to 43 fires in 2018

Westchester Fire District responded to 428 calls in 2018 - 26.7 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Westchester included 43 fires - 27 structure fires, two vehicle fires and 14 other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $606,625 in fire loss - or about $14,108 per fire.

The department also received 384 false calls, including two malicious calls and 382 other false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related injury.

The Westchester Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 27 active employees and 30 retired or inactive employees, was $414,387 positive as of April 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $6,094 for every fire in 2017.
