Proviso Township High Schools Board of Education Policy Committee met Jan. 21.

Here is the minutes provided by the committee:

I. Called to order: 4:40pm

II. Review of Policies to be presented for Second Reading

a. None

III. Discussion of Policies to be presented for First Reading

a. Pending Policies from Prior Committee Consideration

i. 4:140 Waiver of Student Fees*

ii. 6:190 Extracurricular and Co-Curricular Activities*

iii. 6:240 Field Trips*

Discussion: Is the last line of the language necessary. Situations are isolated; however, it is possible with band, for example, that there may be co-curricular circumstances requiring an alternative activity being.

Recommendation: Recommend to move forward for first reading with inserted language

*Inter-related policies for combined discussion and consideration

iv. 2:230 Public Participation at Board of Education Meetings and Petitions to the Board 

Recommendation: Seek Mr. Gleason’s opinion of the proposed language, particularly regarding limiting public comment to a time window. What does the “minimum of 30 minutes” suggest?

IV. Review and Planning for Consideration of 1.1.2020 PRESS Updates

a. Recommendation: Move Forward for First Reading with PRESS Updates

i. 2:20 Powers and Duties of the Board of Education; Idemnification

ii. 2:70 Vacancies on the Board of Education - Filling Vacancies

iii. 4:15 Identity Protection

iv. 4:30 Revenue and Investments

v. 4:60 Purchases and Contracts

1. Check that current district processes and practices require this of contractors

vi. 5:10 Equal Employment Opportunity and Minority Recruitment

b. Reviewed, no action recommended

i. 4:45 Insufficient Fund Checks and Debt Recovery

b. Review and Planning for Consideration of 1.1.2020 PRESS Five-Year Reviews
