City of Berwyn issued the following announcement on Oct. 19.

On October 8th, 2019 at the Berwyn City Council meeting, a proclamation was passed by Mayor Robert J. Lovero and the council members to proclaim Friday, October 18th, 2019 as Jeffrey S. Janda Day, for his dedication to the beautification of our parks.

Jeff recently submitted his resignation to the Berwyn Park District board after serving the city through the Berwyn Park District for over 30 years.

Jeff was instrumental to the enhancement and revitalization of various parks in the district, including Proksa Park calling it “the jewel of the western suburbs” after its designation as a Level I Accreditation by the ArbNet Arboretum Accreditation Program and the Morton Arboretum in April 2019. The ArbNet Arboretum Accreditation Program is the only global initiative to officially recognize arboreta at various levels of development, capacity, and professionalism.

“The City of Berwyn has the highest population density in the State of Illinois and Proksa Park serves as an oasis for residents and nature alike.” Jeffrey stated.

This morning, Mayor Robert J. Lovero, the Park District board and staff, and community residents commemorated the day through an unveiling ceremony at the corner of 30th Street and Wisconsin Avenue, hereby known as “Janda’s Junction” in honor of Jeffrey S. Janda’s exemplariness.
