A sexual harassment and discrimination protection bill, co-sponsored and brought to the floor by Illinois state Sen. John Curran (R-Darien), was recently signed into law.
Senate Bill 75 updates the Human Rights Act to increase protections for the employee after they report sexual harassment. It also limits the use of non-disclosure agreements, which would restrict an individual from reporting sexual discrimination or harassment.
“This is a major step toward ensuring that people can live and work free of sexual harassment and discrimination,” Curran wrote on his website. “This also makes sure that the proper mechanisms are in place to hold people accountable who commit harassment and discrimination.”
Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed the bill into law last month.
