Q2 2018 Recap: Parolees in Broadview convicted of sex crimes

There were five offenders convicted of sex crimes released on parole in Broadview during the second quarter, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by the West Cook News.

The data shows that five men were among the parolees. The median age of the parolees sentenced for sex crimes was 40. The youngest parolee was a 23-year-old man sentenced in 2017, and the oldest was a 62-year-old man sentenced in 2004.

The offender who was incarcerated the longest was Joel Velazquez. He was convicted of a sex crime in 2004 when he was 46 years old. He is now 62.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.
