Former state school employee Ziemba paid in $24K to teachers' pension fund, could collect $497K in retirement

Former state school employee Mary Ziemba, who retired in May 2017, saved $23,522 toward a pension over 13 years working for public schools, Teachers' Retirement System of the State of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Ziemba would collect as much as $497,189, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes West Cook News.

The projection assumes Ziemba received $10,450 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 3 years of retirement, Ziemba will have already received $32,301 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the teachers' pension fund.
