Orthopedic

Loyola University Medical Center issued the following announcement on Dec. 20.

Loyola Medicine has been named to Becker's Healthcare's 2018 list of 100 Hospitals and Health Systems with Great Orthopaedic Programs.

Becker's said hospitals on the list have been recognized for "quality of care and patient satisfaction for orthopaedic and spine surgery."

Becker's editorial team took several rankings and awards into consideration, including U.S. News & World Report rankings for adult and pediatric orthopaedics and Blue Cross Blue Shield Blue Distinction Center designation. Hospitals cannot pay for inclusion on the list.

Loyola's Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation is nationally recognized for its expertise in diagnosing and treating a broad range of orthopaedic conditions. Loyola is ranked 36th in the nation in orthopaedics in U.S. News & World Report's 2018-19 Best Hospitals rankings, which rated nearly 5,000 hosptials.

Thirty-six faculty members and 10 advance practice providers conduct more than 80,000 patient visits annually at 12 outpatient sites and perform about 6,000 inpatient and outpatient procedures. Orthopaedic surgeons play a key role in maintaining Loyola as the only Level 1 trauma center in Illinois to be verified by the American College of Surgeons. Verification provides an objective, external review of a trauma center's resources and performance.

In 2018, Loyola’s spine surgery and hip and knee replacement programs were recognized as Blue Distinction Centers Plus by Blue Cross Blue Shield. Blue Distinction Plus Centers are recognized for their proven expertise, efficiency, high quality care and patient results.

Loyola is designated as an Aetna Institute of Quality Facility for Orthopedic Care for total joint replacement and spine surgery. Loyola's surgical optimization program for high-risk surgical patients helps improve outcomes following outpatient surgery.

Loyola’s inpatient rehabilitation program is accredited by CARF International, demonstrating the program meets international quality standards and is committed to excellence.
