City of Berwyn issued the following announcement on Dec. 4.
The Berwyn Holiday Fund’s “Sailors for Christmas” celebration is being cancelled this year. This cancellation is
due to the Navy changing their programming and being unable to accommodate us with recruits to host. This yearly event will resume in 2019 as we anticipate its 13th year. Funds raised will go toward next year’s Berwyn Holiday Fund programs. Although the “Sailors for Christmas” celebration is postponed till next year, the Berwyn Holiday Fund will continue preparation for its Holiday Food Basket program, now in its tenth year. This event will take place on Saturday, December 15th at 9 am in the Liberty Cultural Center, 6445 W. 27th Place. Last year, we assembled and delivered more than 470 food packages to those in need. Over the life of this effort, we have delivered 3,867 baskets to disadvantaged families, averaging 429 per year. The volunteers who gathered to help with this act of charity felt humbled by the experience--and grateful for the chance to help the less fortunate.
