Westchester FD responds to 58 fires in 2017

Westchester Fire Department responded to 514 calls in 2017 - 12.4 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Westchester included 58 fires - 31 structure fires, six vehicle fires and 21 other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $294,200 in fire loss - or about $5,072 per fire.

The department also received 455 false calls, including three malicious calls and 452 other false calls.

One fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents.

The Westchester Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 26 active employees and 28 retired or inactive employees, was $1,613,263 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $26,020 for every fire in 2016.
