Pleasantview FPD responds to 128 fires in 2017

Pleasantview Fire Protection District responded to 751 calls in 2017 - 16.4 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Pleasantview included 128 fires - 76 structure fires, 18 vehicle fires and 34 other fires. The fire department also responded to three calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $1,132,825 in fire loss - or about $8,850 per fire.

The department also received 620 false calls, including six malicious calls and 614 other false calls.

The calls resulted in two civilian fire-related injuries.

The Pleasantview Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $13,890,305 in 2016.

The Pleasantview FPD, which has 38 active employees and 38 retired or inactive employees, was $628,273 in debt as of December 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $5,817 for every fire in 2016.
