Broadview FD responds to 71 fires in 2017

Broadview Fire Department responded to 344 calls in 2017 - 17.9 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Broadview included 71 fires - 36 structure fires, 12 vehicle fires and 23 other fires. The fire department also responded to six calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $119,550 in fire loss - or about $1,684 per fire.

The department also received 267 false calls, including 11 malicious calls and 256 other false calls.

Two fire service member were injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Broadview Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 28 active employees and 46 retired or inactive employees, was $2,597,650 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $33,303 for every fire in 2016.
