Thom Serafin, University of Illinois at Springfield (UIS) Alumni Board chair, was featured recently in the UIS Alumni Magazine as he and UIS Chancellor Susan Koch prepared to honor two alumni with the UIS Alumni Achievement and Distinguished Service awards.
Serafin, founder of the PR/communications firm Serafin and Associates, was noted as a "savvy strategist" in the magazine article that highlighted his over four-decade-long career of public relations, media and political strategy work for many high profile clients such as former President Bill Clinton, former presidential candidate Gary Hart, former football player Mike Ditka and former U.S. Sen. Paul Simon.
The article also noted Serafin's ability to get along with everyone, which he said has contributed to his success.
"My dad taught me that," Serafin is quoted as saying in the article. "Get along with people. No reason not to."
Serafin's work in the realm of politics includes serving as state manager to 1988 Democratic presidential candidate Hart and as former U.S. Sen Alan Dixon's adviser and press secretary in Washington, D.C.
