Hillside FD responds to 54 fires in 2016

Hillside Fire Department responded to 219 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the West Cook News.

The calls in Hillside included 54 fires - 36 structure fires, eight vehicle fires and 10 other fires.

In all, the department saw $208,510 in fire loss - or about $3,861 per fire.

The department also received 165 false calls, including five malicious calls and 160 other false calls.

One fire service member was injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Hillside Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has 20 active employees and 19 retired or inactive employees, was $1,094,101 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $20,261 for every fire in 2016.
