Elmwood Park FD responds to 46 fires in 2016

Elmwood Park Fire Department responded to 268 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the West Cook News.

The calls in Elmwood Park included 46 fires - 29 structure fires, seven vehicle fires and eight other fires. The fire department also responded to two calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $365,290 in fire loss - or about $7,941 per fire.

The department also received 222 false calls, including three malicious calls and 219 other false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related injury.

The Elmwood Park Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has 25 active employees and 28 retired or inactive employees, was $1,878,192 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $40,830 for every fire in 2016.
