Western Springs firefighters host recruitment open house

Fire 06

The Western Springs Fire Department is looking for community members who want to join the department in the spirit of “neighbors protecting neighbors.”

One of the fire stations is staffed with two certified firefighter paramedics 24 hours a day, but the department strongly depends on paid, on-call firefighters.

The department is reaching out to men and women in the community who want to join the team and offer a life-saving service to area neighbors. The paid, on-call and volunteer firefighters receive state-certified training, personal protective equipment, uniforms, per-call compensation and a sense of accomplishment.

Those eligible to apply must be at least 18 years old and live in the village of Western Springs or within a mile of its boundaries. The department is looking for applicants who are energetic, positive, upbeat, physically fit and have a strong desire to be a part of the department family. In addition to responding to fire calls and offering ambulance services, the department is also engaged with the community through fire prevention and public education, and offers several events throughout the year for firefighters and their families.

To learn more about the position, attend the information orientation open-house event at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 13 at the headquarters station, 4353 Wolf Road. Any questions can be directed to Chief Patrick Kenny at 708-246-1800, ext. 171, or pkenny@wsprings.com.
