After reviewing e-mails received from residents, Village President Sam Pulia and Trustee Nick Steker addressed the topic of snow removal at a Jan. 12 Committee of the Whole meeting.

Pulia researched how sidewalk snow removal was handled in Westchester due to community concern. In the village, Public Works isn't responsible for clearing sidewalks of snow. Pulia presented information on how the nearby communities of North Riverside and Countryside are dealing with snow on the sidewalks. After a discussion, the board decided not to make changes to its policies, meaning homeowners are still responsible for removing snow from sidewalks.

The contract to install the Radio Read Meters was also under review at the meeting. Robert Lewis said an additional mount is needed for proper installation. After the board and staff discussed their concerns for additional work and cost, it was decided that they would have a speaker from HD Supply address the board.

Village Manager Janet Matthys reminded the committee that Alliance Turf Management’s contract for the landscaping of property owned by Westchester is up for renewal. Trustee Tom Yurkovich expressed concern over the landscaping around Mayfair Reserve, and Matthys said she would investigate prior to presenting a case for the renewal of the contract.

The board is also considering passing an ordinance in regards to pipe repairs. Upgrades in some subdivisions have been discussed before. Attorney Michael Durkin said the use of the new Y-joint would be required by policy for all future repairs of pipes in the right-of-way.
