Naomi Medina and David Gonzalez have been recognized by the Brookfield Beautification Commission for their front garden at 9013 Burlington Ave., which was selected as the public’s favorite in August as part of the Garden Recognition Program.
The garden, which spans the width of their property, contains a variety of annual and perennial flowers such as rose mallow, begonias, marigolds, and cosmos. Decorative figurines are also placed throughout the space.
“People are always complimenting our gardens,” said David Gonzalez. “With its many different flowers and colors, it attracts hummingbirds, butterflies, bumble bees and birds. At night, the different color lights are an attraction as well. It's a great spot to sit and read and reflect. I invite you to come and check it out.”
On September 23, Medina and Gonzalez received a Garden Recognition Award sign for display in their garden along with a $50 gift card.
The Beautification Commission chose three finalists from five nominees before asking residents to vote online for their preferred garden. Medina and Gonzalez’s entry received the most votes during last week’s voting period.
In September, the commission will honor another local garden that features native plants. Nominations for this award are open until September 30. The commission is only considering gardens that are visible from public spaces.
More information about how to nominate a garden or details about the program can be found on the Beautification Commission's page on the Village website.
