Town Hall Bowl in Cicero has reopened after a significant renovation, with local officials and community members gathering for a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The bowling alley, which has served the community for over 60 years, is the last remaining one in Cicero.
Town President Larry Dominick spoke at the event, reflecting on his own experiences at the alley and emphasizing its importance to the town. “Bowling is a tradition, and a lot of bowling alleys have been torn down. This is the last one standing in Cicero,” he said. “It’s a great family game, and I hope people come here to enjoy it. I want to compliment the owner for doing such a great job.”
Dominick also recalled Cicero’s history with bowling venues throughout the area and highlighted programs aimed at engaging young people. “I used to run kids’ leagues, and it’s very important to give young people something positive to do,” he added. “I’d love to see more kids and adults come out and make this place flourish.”
Yianni Mavrakis, who owns Town Hall Bowl, described his efforts to restore the space while keeping its original character intact. “This project has been about bringing the space back to the community,” he said. “I love nostalgia, and I love places that bring people together. Seeing families laugh, smile, and enjoy themselves here means everything to me.” Mavrakis noted that although updates were made, key features like wood lanes were preserved: “The bones of this place — the wood lanes, the history — are what give it spirit. We’re not the fanciest center, but we have a lot of heart, and I want to lean into that.” He expressed hopes for Town Hall Bowl to become more than just a business: “My hopes are for this to truly become a community center — a third place where people can come together every day.”
Other local officials attended as well, including First Lady Mrs. Diana Dominick; Town Clerk Maria Punzo-Arias; Town Trustee Blanca Vargas; and Business License Director Ismael Vargas.
Mrs. Diana Dominick commented on how reopening supports both families and businesses in Cicero: “Town Hall Bowl has been a gathering place for generations,” she said. “It’s wonderful to see it revitalized and ready to bring even more joy to our residents. This is about more than bowling — it’s about keeping our community connected.”
After cutting the ribbon, attendees entered Town Hall Bowl’s refreshed space for games marking its new chapter.
