Three new probationary police officers have joined the Cicero Police Department following a swearing-in ceremony held at department headquarters. The recruits—Luis, Eduardo, and Alexander—took their oath of office in front of family members and department leadership.
“Each new officer joining our department is a promise to our community,” said President Larry Dominick. “We continue to invest in public safety so that Cicero remains a safe, welcoming place for families to live, work, and raise their children.”
The event was led by Cicero Police Superintendent Tom Boyle, who addressed the recruits and their families about the responsibilities ahead. “This is the first step of many,” Boyle said. “Today, you transition from citizen to police officer. It may look simple, but internally it’s a huge commitment—to yourself, to your family, and to the community of Cicero.”
After reciting their oaths, each recruit received a police star as a symbol of authority and public trust. Family members participated in pinning the stars on the new officers.
The recruits will begin 15 weeks of academic, physical, and paramilitary training at the police academy next week before returning for further field training in Cicero.
Superintendent Boyle noted that hiring new officers is important as departments across the country are dealing with retirements and staff turnover. He referenced that 13 probationary officers graduated from the academy last week and said that with these three additional recruits sworn in, Cicero is moving closer to full staffing levels.
“We are thrilled to have these recruits choose Cicero,” Boyle said. “Every day, our goal is to build a stronger, more responsive, and professional police department that makes our residents feel safe in their homes and throughout the community.”
