A group of senior residents from Cicero traveled to Milwaukee on July 25 for a day trip to GermanFest, a well-known festival that highlights German culture, food, and music. The event was organized by the Cicero Senior Center as part of its ongoing efforts to provide cultural experiences and seasonal outings for local seniors.

The participants left from the Public Safety Building in Cicero and spent the day at the lakefront festival grounds in Milwaukee. Activities included listening to live polka bands, watching traditional German folk dancing, and sampling foods such as bratwurst, sauerkraut, and pretzels. Attendees also enjoyed Cedar Crest Ice Cream and took in views of Lake Michigan. Some seniors rode the Skyglider attraction for aerial views of the city.

Diana Dominick, Director of the Cicero Senior Center, said: “It’s always so special to see our seniors exploring new places and making memories together. Whether it was tasting something new, enjoying the music, or riding the Skyglider, this trip gave them a chance to relax, laugh, and just have fun—and that’s what these summer outings are all about.”

According to organizers, many participants were attending GermanFest for the first time. The trip emphasized not only cultural engagement but also social connection among attendees. The return journey saw participants sharing stories and reflecting on their experiences.
