City of Berwyn City Council met July 8
Here are the minutes provided by the council:
Mayor Robert J. Lovero called the City Council meeting to order at 8:00 p.m. Clerk Garcia called the roll. Alderpeople present in chambers: Caldwell, Bowman, Leja, Fejt, Pabon, Polashek, Bruckmann, and Carmichael. Attendees rose to recite the Pledge of Allegiance.
Mayor Lovero then called for a moment of silence in support of our first responders.
Open Forum:
Mayor Lovero reminded all elected officials to complete their Open Meetings Act (OMA) registration. Clerk Garcia seconded the reminder. Mayor Lovero then opened the floor for public comment.
Ald. Leja reminded constituents of his quarterly 3rd Ward Meeting scheduled for Friday, July 18, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. The meeting will be held at Heritage Middle School, 6850 31st Street.
Approval of Minutes:
C-1: Aid. Fejt made the motion, seconded by Ald. Caldwell, to approve the June 24, 2025, Committee of the Whole and Regular City Council Minutes as submitted. The motion passed by a unanimous voice vote.
Bid Openings:
Nothing submitted.
E-1: Berwyn Township, Berwyn Health District, Berwyn Development Corporation:
Nothing submitted.
Reports from the Mayor:
F-1: Ald. Polashek made the motion, seconded by Ald. Pabon, to adopt a Proclamation declaring October 22 of each year as "Bob Schiller Day" in the City of Berwyn. The motion passed by a unanimous voice vote. Clerk Garcia read the proclamation.
Reports from the City Clerk:
G-1: Aid . Bruckmann made the motion, seconded by Ald. Carmichael, to concur with the City's recommendation to approve a handicap parking sign at 1808 S. Wisconsin Ave. The motion passed by a unanimous voice vote.
G-4: Ald. Polashek made the motion, seconded by Ald. Carmichael, to defer for two weeks the City's recommendation to deny handicap parking installations at 1633 S. Elmwood Ave., 2118 S. Elmwood Ave., and 2113 Euclid Ave. The motion passed by a unanimous voice vote.
Zoning Board of Appeals:
Nothing submitted.
Reports from Aldermen, Committees, and Boards:
1-1: Ald. Leja made the motion, seconded by Ald. Carmichael, to approve the Depot District Summer Festival, scheduled tor July 25, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The event will include road closures on Stanley Avenue between Oak Park Avenue and Kenilworth Avenue, as well as on 32nd Street to Stanley Avenue. City services have been requested.
The motion passed by a unanimous voice vote.
Clerk's Note: Ald. Leja made a request to edit the event name from "Summer Fair" to "Summer Fest." on the agenda and paperwork.
Reports from Staff:
J-1: Aid. Fejt made the motion, seconded by Ald . Pabon, to authorize the settlement of Case No. 23WC006362 in the amount of $62,376.25. On the call of the roll, the motion passed unanimously.
J-2: Ald. Leja made the motion, seconded by Ald. Polashek, to concur with Police Chief Cimaglia's request to hire one (1) probationary police officer from the lateral eligibility pool. The motion passed by a unanimous voice vote.
Consent Agenda Items K-1 through K-14:
Ald. Caldwell made the motion, seconded by Ald. Fejt, to approve the Consent Agenda as presented. The motion passed by a unanimous voice vote.
Aldermanic Committee Meetings:
1. Ald. Caldwell-1st Ward Meeting scheduled for July 15, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. at Irving School (3501 Kenilworth).
2. Aid. Leja - Hosting the Depot District Summer Festival on July 25, 2025, in the Depot District.
3. Ald. Carmichael- Recognized 8th Ward constituents participating in the "Berwyn Cruise Nights" event.
Adjournment:
There being no further business before the Council, Ald. Carmichael made the motion, seconded by Ald. Polashek to adjourn the meeting. The motion carried by a unanimous voice vote. The meeting adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
