A group of senior residents from Cicero traveled to Milwaukee on July 25 for a day trip to GermanFest, an annual event celebrating German culture. The excursion was organized by the Cicero Senior Center as part of its ongoing efforts to keep seniors engaged through cultural activities and outings.
The participants departed from the Public Safety Building in Cicero and spent the day at Milwaukee’s lakefront festival grounds. While there, they listened to live polka bands, watched traditional German folk dancing, and sampled foods such as bratwurst, sauerkraut, and pretzels. Some attendees also enjoyed Cedar Crest Ice Cream and took rides on the Skyglider attraction, which offered views of Milwaukee and Lake Michigan.
Diana Dominick, Director of the Cicero Senior Center, commented on the value of these trips for local seniors. “It’s always so special to see our seniors exploring new places and making memories together,” said Dominick. “Whether it was tasting something new, enjoying the music, or riding the Skyglider, this trip gave them a chance to relax, laugh, and just have fun—and that’s what these summer outings are all about.”
According to organizers and attendees alike, camaraderie played a significant role in making the outing memorable. Laughter was heard throughout the festival tents as photos were taken against scenic backdrops and new friendships formed among participants.
The group returned to Cicero later that evening with positive feedback about their experience.
