Congressman Jesús "Chuy" García, representing Illinois' 4th district since 2019, recently posted a series of tweets criticizing former President Donald Trump's policies. As an experienced politician, García has had a long career serving in the Illinois Senate and the Cook County Board of Commissioners before his current role in the U.S. Congress.
On March 26, 2025, García expressed opposition to a proposal involving the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), writing, "We cannot allow Trump to weaponize taxpayer data and violate public trust to target undocumented immigrants. That’s why I’ve joined 61 of my colleagues demanding the IRS reject this harmful proposal."
The following day, March 27, 2025, García criticized Trump's actions affecting student loans, stating, "Millions of borrowers counted on the SAVE Plan to keep their student loan payments affordable. Now Trump is using @usedgov to pull this option offline—leaving borrowers in limbo. How does this lower the cost of living for anyone?"
Later, on the same day, García addressed another policy issue, writing, "Families are already struggling with rising grocery prices and now Trump is making it worse – halting $500M in food aid that helps children, seniors, and veterans. This is cruel and unacceptable."
