Two days later, on March 11, 2025, he addressed an issue concerning the detention of a U.S. student for free speech activities. He criticized this action as illegal and against democratic values: "Detaining a U.S. student and resident for exercising his right to free speech is not only illegal, it is a direct threat to our democratic values." He further accused the Trump administration of using immigration as a tool to suppress dissent.
Later that day, García participated in a House Judiciary hearing where he discussed financial disparities within the NCAA: "In today’s @HouseJudiciary hearing, I laid out the facts: the NCAA is a multi-billion dollar industry..." He highlighted concerns about athletes receiving minimal compensation compared to coaches and administrators who earn substantial salaries.
