Jesús "Chuy" García, a U.S. Congressman representing Illinois' 4th district, has recently expressed his views on several pressing issues through social media. García, who has been serving in Congress since 2019 after succeeding Luis Gutiérrez, has used his platform to address concerns ranging from aerospace safety to immigration policies.
On February 18, 2025, Congressman García commented on the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) investigation into SpaceX's safety practices. He highlighted that "4 wks after FAA ordered an investigation into SpaceX’s safety practices, and 3 wks after the deadly DCA midair crash, Elon fired 100s of FAA safety experts." He raised concerns about SpaceX employees taking over roles traditionally held by air traffic control experts within the agency investigating the company.
Two days later, on February 20, 2025, García criticized a decision made by the Trump administration regarding legal representation for children in court. He stated: "I strongly condemn the Trump admin’s decision to leave 26,000 innocent, vulnerable children without any legal representation in court." He described this move as inhumane and vowed to oppose what he termed an abuse of power.
Later that day, Congressman García also recognized National Caregivers Week of Action by urging support for immigrant workers. In his post he said: "It’s National Caregivers Week of Action! Join me in saluting the hard work of immigrant healthcare workers..." His message called for rejecting divisive rhetoric and supporting policies that respect immigrants' dignity and rights.
