Cook County is preparing to open warming centers in response to an anticipated extreme cold front expected to impact the region starting Sunday afternoon. The National Weather Service has forecasted wind chills that could make temperatures feel as low as -15°F.

To support residents during this period of severe weather, Cook County will open warming centers in various suburbs, including the north, west, and south areas. These centers will begin operations at 12 pm on Sunday, February 16, and remain open continuously until 5 pm on Tuesday, February 18.

Residents lacking sufficient heating are encouraged to utilize these facilities for relief from the cold. The designated locations for the warming centers include:

- Skokie Courthouse: 5600 Old Orchard Rd., Skokie, IL 60077

- Maywood Courthouse: 1500 Maybrook Dr., Maywood, IL 60153

- Markham Courthouse: 16501 S. Kedzie Ave., Markham, IL 60428

The warming centers will offer water and snacks and provide access to restrooms. Residents may bring pets if they are in cages or carriers; a limited number of these will be available at each courthouse location.

For more information on all available warming center locations, residents can view the complete list online.
