Cook County's Department of Environment and Sustainability (DES) has announced an extension for public feedback on the draft environmental justice policy. This initiative, co-developed by an internal working group and the EJ Community Advisory Committee, aims to guide programming and policy decisions across various county departments once adopted.

In response to significant community interest, DES extended the deadline for public input until February 28 at 11:59 p.m. CST. The department held four in-person town halls and two virtual sessions to engage with residents.

Residents and workers in Cook County are invited to review the draft policy and provide their feedback through a form available on the DES website.

The county's strategic plan emphasizes addressing historical environmental burdens faced by communities of color and low-income groups. This effort is part of broader initiatives outlined in documents such as the Cook County COVID-19 Response Plan, Equity Fund Taskforce recommendations, and Board Resolution 23-1092.
