The Cicero Police Department held its inaugural awards ceremony on January 31, 2025, to honor the service and dedication of its officers and partners from various law enforcement agencies. The event took place at the Cicero Community Center with attendance from town officials, police command staff, law enforcement partners, and families.

Victor Gurrola, serving as master of ceremonies, welcomed attendees and expressed gratitude for the community's support. Chaplain Ishmael Vargas led a prayer recognizing the officers' commitment to service. Police Superintendent Thomas Boyle emphasized the importance of acknowledging outstanding achievements within the department. He stated, “I’m honored to be here and I’m honored to lead this department and I’m equally honored to welcome you to our award ceremony.”

Awards presented included commendations for cases involving homicides, life-saving actions, armed violence, home invasions, and sexual assault investigations. Officer Nestor Vera was recognized for his leadership role at the Illinois State Police Academy. Detective Daniel Tallen received nine awards, the most for any individual that day.

Detective Edgar Alba was named Officer of the Year for his work on multiple cases including a homicide investigation. Sergeant Jose Sanchez received the Sergeant of the Year award for his contributions to Special Operations.

The ceremony concluded with Sophia Diaz reading a prayer poem in tribute to police officers' dedication and sacrifice.
