The Town of Cicero has recently expanded its Fire Department fleet with the addition of three new ambulances. This development was made possible by Town President Larry Dominick and the Board of Trustees. The ambulances, which have been arriving over the past three months, will soon be operational due to efforts in collaboration with IDPH and Loyola.
Assistant Fire Chief Steve Schwar expressed his gratitude for this upgrade, as it replaces older vehicles that were overdue for retirement. “We’re very excited about this,” he said. “The other ones definitely needed to be replaced. This is like a Christmas gift from the town to our firefighters.”
The new ambulances have positively impacted department morale. According to Schwar, one common complaint among firefighters was about the aging ambulances. “It’s good to know we now have reliable equipment to continue protecting the town,” he added.
Plans are underway for handling the retired vehicles. One may be donated while two others will be evaluated for future use. With these additions, the department will maintain a fleet of five vehicles, ensuring readiness and efficiency.
“Our ambulances are used daily and are always run into the ground,” Schwar noted. “This upgrade was absolutely necessary, and we’re very appreciative of the town’s support.”
The introduction of these ambulances highlights Cicero's ongoing commitment to public safety and dedication to protecting its residents.
