Jesús "Chuy" García, a U.S. Congressman representing Illinois' 4th district, shared his views on various topics through a series of tweets. García has been in Congress since 2019 and previously served in the Illinois Senate and the Cook County Board of Commissioners. He was born in Durango, Mexico, and currently resides in Chicago.
On January 27, 2025, García commented on Vice President's religious beliefs by stating "The VP said he is a practicing Catholic. As such, he should know that the Catholic Bishops have always followed what the Bible teaches, that we should treat immigrants and refugees with hospitality, justice and mercy. Time for JD to go to confession."
Later that day, García reflected on Holocaust Remembrance Day by noting "This Holocaust Remembrance Day marks 80 years since the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau. As we mourn the 6 million Jews and millions of others murdered, we must also recommit to the urgent fight against antisemitism, Holocaust denialism, and hate in all its forms."
On January 28, 2025, García highlighted his efforts in securing federal aid for areas affected by severe storms in 2023. He stated "Last Congress, I joined efforts to secure federal aid for Cook County & local municipalities hit by severe storms in 2023. Thanks to those efforts, Cicero, Chicago, and Cook County received a total of $776M in disaster recovery grants to rebuild stronger than ever."
