Jesús "Chuy" García, a U.S. Congressman representing Illinois' 4th district, has been vocal on various issues through his social media platform. On January 24, 2025, García addressed several topics of national interest.

In a tweet posted at 15:19 UTC, García criticized the appointment of Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense by former President Donald Trump. He stated that "Trump picked Pete Hegseth, a former Fox News commentator, as Secretary of Defense to lead over 27k ppl even though he’s never commanded a unit larger than 200 ppl. And led previous organizations he worked at to bankruptcy. Hegseth believes women don’t belong in combat."

He shared his response via social media stating: "My statement in response to reports of ICE activity at Hamline Elementary:" linking to further details.
