The Residential Stormwater Management Program is designed to tackle ongoing drainage issues that lead to code violations and property damage within communities. The initiative offers assistance to property owners interested in addressing standing water problems, drainage beyond their property lines, or installing equipment for effective water storage and drainage.

The program operates alongside the building permit process, providing a one-time building permit fee credit of up to $250 for eligible improvement projects. Priority is given to projects meeting two or more criteria: direct damage from drainage or standing water, evidence of standing water 24 hours post-rainfall, substantial improvement potential, and compliance with Village regulations benefiting multiple properties.

Eligible projects include rain gardens over 100 square feet, dry wells over 10 cubic feet, exterior drain tiles, downspout disconnection with repositioned gutter discharge, sump pump relocation for better drainage management, and overhead sewer installation.

Projects not eligible are new constructions requiring stormwater control measures, multiple installations at one site (one-time participation only), maintenance of existing storm systems, pop-up emitters on public rights-of-way, and properties owned by individuals with recent code violations or unpaid fees.

For further details on the policy and application process, inquiries can be directed to Assistant Village Manager Ashley Monroe via email at amonroe@riverside.il.us or by phone at (708) 447-1241.
