The Cicero Police Department recently held a seminar focused on identity theft prevention for senior citizens. The event took place on October 25 at the Cicero Senior Center, aiming to educate seniors about identity theft risks and provide strategies for protection.
Seniors are frequently targeted by identity thieves due to their financial resources and personal information. The seminar addressed recognizing phishing scams, safeguarding sensitive data, and avoiding common fraud tactics.
A representative from the Cicero Police Department stated, “We want to ensure our senior community is armed with the latest strategies to prevent identity theft.” The goal is to reduce victimization through proactive education.
Diana Dominick, director of the Cicero Senior Center, emphasized the importance of such events: “Our seniors are a valuable part of our community, and their safety is one of our top priorities. We want to make sure they have the resources to stay safe.”
Attendees could engage with law enforcement experts during the seminar for personalized advice. Chief of Police Thomas Boyle supports these initiatives and encourages local seniors' participation in future events.
